For the last 2-3 months I’ve had a gig with a club promotion team based out of Astoria, Queens. They’re a small team that packs the house at one of Astoria’s newest nightclubs/bars: Club Matrix. They were looking for a graphic designer that could design the promotional flyers for print and web, and that could deliver fresh designs each time. They saw some of the work that I had done for another one of my clients and were impressed.
From Prospect to Client
I was first contacted by Roberto on a Sunday afternoon. His questions were rather simple: 1. Price 2. Turn-Around. Now, many designers may disagree with me on this, but I charge a set price for my printed work. Its a personal choice and I respect the graphic designers that charge hourly or otherwise, but I’m not the fastest designer in the world, so having a set price keeps me competitive against those faster designers. After Roberto and I discussed my rate, he immediately expressed how excited he was to work with a new designer. His previous designers where good designers, but had fallen into bad habits of not being reachable, and worse- they where pumping out flyers identical to competing club flyers. When they finally decided to give me a call, they were already in a bind. Sunday afternoon, and they needed the flyer by Monday morning to send to print. I don’t work weekends, but if it means the difference between one design and a elongated business relationship, I make the sacrifice.
The rest is well, history. I’ve been designing for the Club Matrix teams for since the beginning of March and I’d like to show off a few of my favorite designs. Let me know what you think.
